Session Details

This session explores the contemporary resonance of Butoh as a practice of somatic revolution—an ongoing reorientation of the body away from human habit and social identity. Emerging from postwar Japan as a radical “rebellion of the body,” Butoh continues to evolve across cultures and contexts. Researcher, artist, and author of Butoh, As Heard by a Dancer, Dominique Savitri Bonarjee introduces her approach, Butoh Mutations, which moves away from performance, toward discovering dance as nondual embodied inquiry. Combining a short talk with a guided experiential introduction, this 45-minute session invites participants to encounter the body as a dynamic field of sensation, imagination, and relation—where boundaries between self and world begin to soften. Open to all, no prior experience required.
